What is digital fluency
Digital fluency is the ability to confidently use and adapt to new technology to achieve set outcomes. It is the ability to apply a range of skills and processes like digital literacy, creativity, evaluation, problem solving, online safety and ways to apply knowledge to various situations and a range of digital devices. (White, 2013)
The digital world is always changing and is constantly updating. Being digitally fluent explores the ability to develop patience, perseverance, willingness and knowledge These skills are effectively developed by the digital native generation who have grown up with this technology and have changed alongside it. (Prensky, 5, October 2001) This has further developed the information age. As we understand digital immigrants may take an extended time to understand technologies and may never lose their accent (Prensky, 5, October 2001)
Reading the word digital fluency, gives you a feeling of accomplishment, of demand, of confidence, but what does it mean for a student to be talented enough to be considered fluent? Howell (2012)
It means exactly that, it means being able to engage with technology with confidence with an understanding, it is being able to retrieve anything on demand, it means accomplishing things you may never thought of before. All this made accessible by the digital age.
