Reflection

First and for most I found this experience quite difficult. As a digital immigrant becoming confident well, we should say fluent in the use of technology is quite difficult. As I progressed through this assessment, I hit many roadblocks in which I had to overcome, many thanks to google, and online support supervisors who were able to provide me with support and bridge the gap.

Understanding technology is such an important aspect of development but it is such an amazing and unveiling thing to engage in. I discovered so many ways to use different types of devices, and various tools in which came in handy whilst creating my website. The realization after something is created really builds that confidence, builds the accomplishment and a sense of achievement.

After reading Prensky’s digital natives, digital immigrants many times, there was a definite connection calling out to me. Reading it first the mindset was that I was a digital native. That I am confident using technologies, that I don’t have an ‘accent”  (Prensky, 5, October 2001). But I soon realised that I am not digitally fluent, that I am part of the digital divide and that I myself am a digital immigrant.

In saying this though, there are so many things that I am still yet to refine and learn. The digital world is huge, and is growing fast, and until engaging in this experience, I never realised how fast. This experience is something I will never forget and have many plans to use this technology throughout future assessments.

I do believe gaining a stronger and more fluent understanding of the digital age will help me to build effective digital skills. As Pearl Zhu stated in 100 Digital Rules “Critical Thinking brings insight into the situation.”
